I recently compiled a list of the calories and sodium levels of some commonly eaten foods...it’s always good to see something like this every once-in-awhile - just as a reminder......
(all data was taken from the respective brand websites)
The average individual should aim to consume less than 2300mg of sodium a day - if they have already been diagnosed with high blood pressure, they should try and limit their intake to 1500mg or less per day...
...the funny thing about sodium is that the more you take in, the less sensitive (TASTE-wise) you are to it - and, alternately, the less you take in, the MORE sensitive you are to it. If you can get used to the initial "taste" of consuming less sodium in your diet, eventually you won't need as much to actually - ahem - TASTE it!
Blogging to keep her mind fresh - and to [hopefully] help others in the process - this stay-at-home mom is a registered dietitian with a background in design, biochemistry, and public health...she invites you to email her with your health and nutrition questions.
And how many mg of sodium per day is "required"?
ReplyDeleteAnd if you have been diagnosed with high blood pressure, shouldn't that per day amount be less?
